What keeps that from being a lot of to think could be that the notion of Arthur is abstract; he’s a metaphor for overspending and overindulgence, and also the entire film is based on the idea that most people stuck in cases like this need is a bit of love and acceptance to get over their problems. This setting, with citizens either rioting, killing, offing themselves, contradictorily washing dishes like to forget, or stocking bomb shelters for apocalyptic survival, is the two most unique element along with the film’s undoing.
